Crochet WeekDay: Small Shell Doily

August 17, 2008
SMALL SHELL DOILY

History
I am so desperate for yarn for doilys ( on top that one 50gm spool isnt enough for one doily)… i went around the house to find something that can be crocheted.
A “Kalasem”, we used sometime back for puja has a yarn wound around it and it is same as the yarn left by the plumbers last weekend. I think it is the same yarn used by the flower sellers to tie the flowers..
Its a 3 ply yarn ( very loosely plied). Each strand is tightly spun.
I worked on a small doily to test it..
FO - Small Shell Doily1
Yarn:
3-Ply Cotton Yarn
Hook: 4mm Pony Metal
Others:
Size: 8” Diameter
Pattern: Small Shell Doily, I found it through crochetpatterncentral
Notes:
The only problem is the yarn does not give a great stitch definition but gives the doily a very vintage look.
I dyed the doily with turmeric, as i saw the yarn from puja stuff has lot of turmeric on it.
(Will upload that photo soon)

If i make it again;
I will try to use the 5 ply yarn used by the flower sellers and will not dye it.

Learnt:
No More Dyeing with Kitchen stuff 🙂
Time: 1 Day

Hey really nice blog. Hard to believe that you manage to work, do the household chores and still find time to pursue your hobby. I’m really inspried to do something similar. Guess i’ll head to one of the stores in Adayar and get a cross-stitch kit to start with. 🙂

ahh finally… A lazy girl can really inspire others to do something :-))
I am very much strict about the time i spend at office. My MIL shares the household chores (i am a bit lucky here)
Most of the time i do my things just before bedtime and on weekend afternoons.
    All the Best Rosa.
