A Short Yarny Trip to Adyar

October 16, 2007

I had a quick trip to RS Stores in adyar. I went there straight from office so no camera and no pictures of the store, but there are some pictures of the yarn i bought from there 🙂

The store is very near to the Adyar depo and is not difficult to find as its in the signal junction opposite to Adyar telephone exchange. One can spot the shop from far with all the bamboo baskets hanging around. I visited the store in the afternoon when there isnt much crowd. The store has most of the fevicryl craft products like glass paints, ceramic paints apart from embroidery threads, designs, embroidery notions, crochet and tatting yarn, bamboo baskets for flower arrangements and other craft supplies.

The acrylic yarn section is located just outside the front door with a sales girl to help you. You must really drill the girl to show what all yarn she has 🙂

Most of the collection is wrosted yarn in solid colors, with a limited collection of afghan weight and bulky yarn – no multi color yarns. I guess most of them are acrylic, though there might be some yarn mixed with cotton..

I bought 200gms of ‘swasthik double scotch’ yarn ( thats what the label says) in deep maroon, i think it will come under afghan weight yarn ( the label says nothing else other than the weight, company name, color code, dye lot number and that it is acrylic).

I also bought 125gms of ‘swasthik doll yarn’ in dark grey color with a bit of sparkle, wrost weight i think. This is also acrylic. I took in natural light so that the sparkle can be seen.

I still didn’t plan anything for the yarn i bought.
There is lots of shopping thats pending, planning  for T.Nagar this weekend which includes a trip to Raja Thread Stores 🙂

    Hi Nirmala,

You can check at the RS fancy store, which i mentioned in the blog to know if anybody take classes nearby. The store is near the signal opposite to the telephone exchange.
You can also put a note in the shop with your contact number so that anybody visiting the store who knows knitting might contact you.
I would have happily done the favour myself If not for my work that creeps into the weekends also:-)
I will keep an eye and mail you if i come across anything.
